Lakeview Artists and Friends
May 5, 2009
This LAF meeting was held at Arrivederci Roma's at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, May 5, 2009.Those present were Dottie Papin, Bruce McMeans, Peter Skotnica, Wes Anderson, Melissa Anderson, Robin Golden, J.C, Morris, Will Griffith, Kathy Stevenson, Sean Joyner, Roger Amterosiz, Debra Lynn Crawford,
The order of business for the night was the Logo, the financial report, the articles of incorporation, setting up at schools with the mosaic project, the kids art fair, the sale at Bed Bath and Beyond, events at Arrivederci Roma, work shops, doing email mailers, web-site promotions, and other advertising.
Old Business:The logo has been talked about and tabled at the last few meetings. The goal is to keep it simple enough to be able to print it horizontal or vertical and to catch the eye.It is still in design phase.
Financial Report:This was submitted by Bruce and looked over. There was a discussion about the return of the check from the application with our articles of incorporation. The check will be sent again when we resubmit the application. The acceptance of the financial report was first by Melissa and seconded by Wes and Will.
The Articles of Incorporation:We submitted the application but it was returned based on the template we used. The Sec. of State office said they would allow us to resubmitthe articles with some statements deleted, such as the bi-laws.They also said they decide the effective date of the articles, not us.They sent us instructions on how and what to fix in the application.
Bruce Committee Chair: Bruce will start firing the mosaic pieces even though it is a small cost. When the pieces are not fired they break and he loses the pieces and has to fix them.It was suggested that the rotary club and other clubs could help with the glazing process.
Funds:It was stated by Dottie that schools were not having career day because they were short on funds. She and the rest of the group would like to make sure that this does not happen again. The fee for career day $500.00.We are still waiting funds from the water district based on our Article of Incorporation. The Women's Club is giving $50.00 to the mosaic project.
Skylar - Chair Committee:We discussed getting together with Bruce Singer.Kathy and I had set a tentative meeting for that Thurs. but could not make it to work on talent show.We do plan to meet and discuss the show with Skylar, Bruce Singer, and Kathy.
Art Walk:We need to have a bigger turn out as artists at the art events. We can set up any time after 11:30 a.m. and stay till 8:00 p.m.We need to keep spreading the word that we are there and we want vendors as well as guests. Also, remind people that there is an open jam session at the art walk.
Public Relation Person:It was decided that we need someone to keep up on email blasts, and newspaper ads, and internet ads.Roger volunteered himself and well as Debra Lynn to be the PR people for the group.
A committee will be set up to hand out flyers, do email blast and phone calls and go to colleges to meet with students and artists. Bruce and Dottie will do the phone list and pass it to Kathy and Robin who will do flyers and calls.
Events:Donna and Paul have opened their arms to the artists and this group. They want to host work-shops and events at Arrivederci Roma.We will be having these events on Wednesdays and they will be starting in June.It was also suggested that we have an artist network night. This would be on a Wednesday as well and it is a time to meet and share ideas with other local Artists.
We have talked about charging a fee to be in art shows but when we start charging for booth space the venue starts charging us.
The Women's Club needs help with the children's Art Fair.If any one can help call Robin Soon.
Jim Hubble is having an event.Tickets are usually $60.00 but if you volunteer to help it is free. This event is June 21 and for info talk with Bruce.
